The Goal (Off-Campus Book 4), by Elle Kennedy

New York Times bestseller Elle Kennedy brings you a sexy new Off-Campus novel that can be read as a standalone…

She’s good at achieving her goals…

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, he’s fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.

Team Tuck!
By Tammy
Elle Kennedy never lets me down. The Briar boys never disappoint. I admit that Garrett owns my heart, but Tucker is very close on his skates.

John Tucker was the quiet one of the Briar boys. He was the cook at the house, the one who took care of the other three. He was the baby faced Texan who endured much good hearted ribbing from his team when he decided to keep his playoff beard. He was Tucker. And then, in the end of Dean's book, The Score, Tuck dropped a bomb. He was having a baby with not just any girl, but Dean's nemesis and Beau's ex, Sabrina James.

What the what?!?!?

I went into The Goal knowing two things - one, Tucker had some tricks up his sleeve and two, I was going to have to re-live the very untimely loss of a beloved character.

Tucker and Sabrina were attracted to each other from the get go. Sabrina was never looking for a relationship with any man. She had no time for that. She was a full time college student working two jobs to pay for law school. Not just law school - Harvard Law. She was a young woman who knew what she wanted and wasn't going to let anyone stop her from getting to her goal. A better life than the one she was living. For a character who was not painted in the best light in the previous three Off Campus novels, Sabrina had a lot of work to make me like her. But after the first chapter from her POV, learning of her home life and what she was dealing with when she was not on the Briar campus, I was rooting for Sabrina. Rooting for her acceptance to Harvard. Sabrina needed someone who was going to have her back and take care of her. She won the jackpot when she decided to hook up with John Tucker.

Tuck is at a crossroad in his life. He's about to graduate college and start the next chapter. Two of his teammates, Garret and Logan, are off to play hockey. Dean is off to New York to coach at a prep school. The three of them are following their dreams. Tucker was stuck somewhere else. He feels a sense of commitment to return to Texas, open his own business and help his mother. After visiting her during the holidays, he is second guessing his plans. His home town is small and the thought of owning a realty business there is not the most exciting life he can think of.

As Tuck spends more time with Sabrina, he learns more about her life than anyone else at Briar knows. He wants to help her, take care of her and be there for her, if she would just let him. Their unplanned pregnancy flips both of their worlds upside down, leading Tuck and Sabrina down a path neither one of them are ready for.

So Many Feels, Including Disappointment
By Border Collie Girl
This is one of my all time fav series, and there was a lot riding on this story. Right out of the gate it's hot. HOT. Whoa, Tucker. He brings the heat. I'm going to try to explain my love and angst of disappointment without spoilers, but there may be some ****SPOILERS AHEAD!!!***

I loved this book, and it was everything I hoped it would be... until it wasn't. This story has a different feel. The transition started in The Score. It's their last year of school, and they're getting geared up for being adults out in the world. They're figuring out all the plans they set for themselves maybe aren't the plans they wanted. This is highlighted even more so in this one since Sabrina is pregnant, which we all knew. Quite a bit of the story runs parallel to The Score, which I enjoyed all the gaps being filled in.

The first half of the book, I love the back and forth between Tucker and Sabrina. Sabrina is a hot mess in a tightly wrapped package. She's amazing, but doesn't let anyone in, for good reason. There are so many feels in this book. The thing w/ Beau had me balling all over again, but at least I knew it was coming this time. Sabrina's life makes my heart ache and I was rooting for these two so hard. Tucker is all that is supportive and amazing. He's the perfect boyfriend times a million. But it goes from him being laid back and in love, to OMG he's just way too understanding.

The middle is a little slow, but I never felt like skimming. It was about 80-85% through that I was starting to lose my love for Sabrina. She's the worst girlfriend EVER. And at no point does she grow beyond being the worst girlfriend ever. Yes, every crappy thing she's doing is because she loves Tucker, but OMG, I kept waiting for some relief, some breaking point where she finally gives a little. Tucker has to force every morsel of affection out of this girl and it gets exhausting and frustrating to watch. I wanted to slap them both upside the head.

She has personal growth, but as a couple they have ZERO growth as partners. It's just something forced on her by Tucker. He forces her to be w/ him. He forces her to move out of her crappy place. Other ppl force her to admit she loves him. Her big moment of telling him she loves him is a few lines she angrily but respectively tells someone else, as she's telling them off!! And that's not until the very, very end.

Tucker, amazing Tucker deserved so much better than that. Seriously.

When the epilogue comes around, it's told from Sabrina's POV and it hurt my heart, b/c I was feeling pretty meh about her character. I was no longer proud of her for being a strong independent woman. I was over her and thought she was lucky Tucker's friends saw something in her I was no longer seeing. I wanted to hear from Tucker's words how his life had been transformed by her love, and her support, and how he and HIS friends still got together--the stars and foundation of this series--and how Sabrina fit in w/ his friends, and was friends w/ their girlfriends. How she improved his life, and made him a better more complete person. I needed something like that to make me love Sabrina and allow me to be happy for Tucker.

This closed out the series, but I didn't get the closure I was hoping for. It was right there, so close to being everything I had hoped for, but then it was just... okay. I guess that's over now. I will continue to reread all the other books in the series, but I'm not sure if this will ever be a reread for me.

Now with all that being said, Fitz is amazingly highlighted in Tucker's story and we get the feeling like we'll see more from him in the future. There are hints at a spinoff series and I fervently hope Fritz is getting his own book!!

A hard one to rate...
By Lynn
3.5*
Man this was a hard read for me for a few reasons. First it's always sad to see the end of a series and I really love this series. I was so excited for Tukcer's story. The fact that this story starts in the middle of other and certain events had to lived again...hard.

I guess the hardest part about rating this one is the book itself. I feel like Tucker made this book and Sabrina well she kind of ruined it for me. I just didn't like her that much, mostly because her attitude toward things. I feel like it took her forever to be honest with herself and then... book is over. I just didn't like the was Tucker was always in limbo because of her, he might of had the patience of a saint but I didn't. I kind of wish someone would have smacked some sense into her earlier on in the book and then I'd have enjoyed it more.

As for the writing, as per usual I loved it. Sabrina was just kind of cloud over this one for me.
